Robogames.net April 23-25, 2010 Blog by Monty K Reed
Why go to the Robogames.net (formerly the RobOlympics) at the San Mateo Farigrounds? I mean what is the point of going to the Bay area to compete in a competition of "Tetsujin" aka robot suit weight lifting? Many people have asked.. Some have suggested I should "Focus on completing the research, build the next two suits and get the things installed in hospitals" some have even gone as far as telling me "You should not go". Well I have to tell you about a meeting we had at the University of Washingtons campus in one of the ME (Mechanical Engineering) buildings just a few weeks ago.
One of the ME students, David S., shared with his classmates his experience at the Robogames last time. "You guys will enjoy the event and you should all go, it was not just the robots, it was the people. There was this twelve year old girl in a wheelchair, and when she looked at Monty in the LIFESUIT she was mesmorized. To see the look on her face was amazing, she had hope that she could have more than just walking."
I agree with David. When I saw the girl looking at me in the LIFESUIT it was great. I had just fired up the LIFESUIT and was doing some testing with lifting some items and then lifted some weights.

It was only a little bit of weight but for the girl it was more than she had ever lifted. She could see I was not doing the lifting. Then she realized the LIFESUIT would let her stand, walk, dance, run, play and even work. She started to cry, I started to cry. It was amazing.
If you can get to the event we would love to talk to you there. Intern and volunteer applications will be accepted at that time.

You can meet with me, the founder (Monty K Reed) at the Vallejo Rotary Club Meeting on April 22 2010 at noon.
For the ME students this is a great chance to meet with 100 or more people who all work for different companies all over the world. Because they will be on a team and have pit passes they will have access to everyone else in the pits. Think about who works on robot projects, especially the battle robots.... Well most of them are engineers or engineer types. They all have some kind of tech connections or another.
You never know, some of our interns will meet people in the pits that could end up resulting in the best job offer they have ever had. Lets face it, in this economy, that is one of the best things we could do for them.

Some of the best minds in robotics will be at this event. Many of the spectators will be pretty cool too.
We will be there, you should be too.
