One of the main points of the newsletter is that "People with physical disabilities are living longer than ever before due to recent advancements in medical care and rehabilitation."    Because patients are living longer ther are new symptoms that are showing up.  In the past the patients died long before they had a chance to experience these new symptoms. 

Rehab is an all new science if you consider all of the improvements.  There are replacement parts available today that were not even imagined by the general public just a decade ago.  Of course there are pioneers that thought of many of them decades agao.

robot makes a difference.” The story follows the work of Monty Reed, of Shoreline, WA, and 40 other
volunteer scientists, including Dr. Stiens, who are working with a robotic device that may someday help
people with spinal cord injuries walk.
